Santo Cristo is a port neighborhood that grew up around warehouses, docks and the railway yards north of Centro. Since the waterfront was reopened as a long promenade, its low brick buildings have filled with studios, food halls and a Saturday street market. The Olympic light rail crosses the district and the aquarium and the Museum of Tomorrow are a short walk along the water. It is a quieter, more local base than the beaches, with easy connections to the historic centre and the samba heartland of Pequena África.
