Marina met us at the door and the apartment was spotless, two short blocks from Ipanema Beach.

Live in Ipanema with room to spread out and a calm, welcoming feel. The open living area keeps its rattan chairs in soft light all afternoon, and the compact kitchen has a stovetop, a coffee maker and wooden counters with everything you need to cook. The one bedroom holds a queen bed with white linens, the bathroom is a full one, and air conditioning, a TV and fast Wi-Fi round out the flat. Ipanema Beach, the metro and a row of small restaurants and markets all sit two short blocks away.

Check-in took two minutes and the living room gets wonderful light all afternoon long.

Quiet street, comfortable bed, and the host answered every question within minutes of asking.

Everything worked and Ipanema is lovely. We would have liked a second set of keys for a group of three.

The location is the best part — we walked to dinner, to the market and back to the apartment every single evening in Ipanema.

The host made this stay. Marina sent a list of favorite places in Ipanema before we arrived and checked in once to make sure we were happy.

Neighborhood highlights
Ipanema wakes up in the water: swimmers first, then the beach vendors dragging their carts across the sand. Two blocks inland the streets turn into bookshops, juice counters and small restaurants that stay busy until late. On Sundays the avenue along the sand closes to cars and belongs to bikes, dogs and families carrying folding chairs. Guests work out within a day that almost everything they need sits inside a ten-minute walk.
