Bastille is the hinge between the old center and the working east, gathered around a square with a gilded column in the middle. A covered market and its outdoor stalls run most mornings and are among the best value in the city. One narrow street off the square is solid with bars until two, while a raised garden walk on an old railway viaduct runs quietly above the traffic a few minutes away. It suits guests who want to be out late and still be near everything.
