A crystal chandelier hangs over the two white sofas in this South Beach apartment. Two bedrooms hold three beds, one with a tufted bench at its foot, and both bathrooms are full ones. The kitchen is stocked with an oven, a stovetop, a coffee maker and a washing machine behind a folding door. Air conditioning and a large TV are standard, and the Wi-Fi handles video calls without trouble. The boardwalk, the beach and the restaurants along the main avenue are two blocks east.

Neighborhood highlights
South Beach delivers exactly what the pictures promise: pastel hotel facades on one side of the street, a mile of pale sand and lifeguard huts on the other. Mornings belong to swimmers and to people walking the beachfront path before the heat arrives. By evening the outdoor tables on the pedestrian street are full and traffic on the main drag barely moves. It is the most energetic place to stay in the city and the least restful.
