Estrela is calm, green and residential, gathered around a domed basilica and the walled garden across the road from it. That garden has a bandstand, a duck pond and enough shade to lose an entire afternoon in. Trams pass on the main road, and the side streets stay quiet enough to hear birds in the morning. Guests here trade nightlife for space and sleep, which is usually the right trade after two days in the old town.
