Neighborhood highlights
Mouraria is the most mixed neighborhood in the city and is proud of it, with grocers, kitchens, bars and taverns from four continents on the same short street. Fado was born on these slopes, and small houses still perform it without a tourist menu in sight. The square at the bottom is a permanent market of stalls, benches and conversation that runs from morning until late. Rents stay lower here, so the streets feel lived-in rather than staged.
