  • Self check-in

You can check in with the building staff.

This private room sits in an Observatory brick house with white-framed windows, beside the river path. You get one bed, a share of the living room with its black leather sofa and framed insect prints, and your own full bathroom. The room comes without a kitchen, so the coffee shops and diners on the main road cover most meals. Air conditioning, a TV and Wi-Fi are included in the nightly rate. The river walk, the student bars and the train station are all within a five-minute walk.

Lerato is a great host and Observatory's cafes and bookshops are a fun, student-friendly neighborhood to explore.

The room is clean and the leather sofa comfortable, but the shared kitchen was often crowded and the walls are thin.

Cheap, central and friendly. The brick house in Observatory has character and the train to the city is right there.

Reasonable for the price in Observatory. The bed is comfortable and the location is strong, but the front room gets very little light.

Observatory was a lovely surprise. The location put us close to everything and still let us rest properly at the end of each day.

Lerato was a wonderful host — quick to answer, full of recommendations, and genuinely welcoming from the first message.

Neighborhood highlights

Observatory is the student neighborhood, a grid of narrow Victorian terraces with corrugated roofs and deep verandas. Its main street runs on cheap food, secondhand books, live music and bars that stay open when the rest of the city has closed. A river path and a wide common sit at the eastern edge for morning runs. Rooms cost less here than anywhere closer to the mountain, and the trains put the center ten minutes away.
