A wide terrace runs the length of this Eixample penthouse, off a double-height living room with black sofas and sheer curtains. Three bedrooms hold four beds, and all three bathrooms have marble walls, wooden vanities and a hair dryer. The kitchen carries an oven, a stovetop, a coffee maker and a washing machine in the closet next door. Free parking, air conditioning and a large TV in the lounge are included in the rate. The sculpted facades of the main avenue, the concert hall and two metro stations are within four blocks.

Eixample is the great grid, with every corner cut at an angle so light and air reach the intersections. The result is long straight views, wide sidewalks and a steady run of ornate facades from the early twentieth century. The biggest landmarks stand inside it, which means guests can walk to most of the famous addresses without a metro ride. Blocks are long, so distances look shorter on a map than they feel underfoot.
